The island has two airports, one located to the south (IATA: TFS, ICAO: GCTs), called Tenerife South Airport and another located in the northern part (IATA: TFN, ICAO: GCXO), called Tenerife North Airport.
In 2010 Tenerife South Airport received just over 7 million passengers and along with 4 million passengers recorded in Tenerife North Airport the island has the highest passenger movement in the Canaries.

Since 2009, Tenerife South Airport has made a major expansion that greatly increased its ability to transit passengers. The airport facilities are expected to continue expanding during the coming years and 2020 is estimated as the completion date. Tenerife North Airport owes its creation to Lufthansa's request to facilitate flights from Berlin via Seville.
