Island in the Mediterranean Sea north of Formentera, belonging to the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. Its area amounts to 572 km2 and has a population of around 130,000 inhabitants, the length of shoreline covers 210 km and in general the island of Ibiza has an irregular shape with several mountains of which Sa Talaia, located in San Jose is the highest with 475 meters altitude.
Between the late 60's and during the 70s, Ibiza enjoyed a tourism which boosted the economic development above that provided by its traditional resources (fisheries and agriculture). Today the island stands as a famous tourist destination for young people around the world due to its popular nightlife.
The biggest attraction is mainly Ibiza nightlife although it has many coves and beaches to enjoy the quiet and beautiful coastal scenery, such as: Playa de Talamanca and Playa d'en Bossa en Ibiza. The island is internationally renowned for its parties and discos, attracting each summer a large number of visitors.Among the most famous clubs are Space, Pacha, Privilege Ibiza, Amnesia, Café del Mar or Es Paradís.
Another place worth mentioning is the Cathedral of Ibiza, where is preserved the image of the Virgen de las Nieves (Patron Saint of Ibiza) and seat of the Diocese of Ibiza.
