Malaga Airport, which since June 6, 2011 officially is called Malaga Airport-Costa del Sol (IATA code: AGP ICAO code: LEMG) is located in southern Andalusia and was established in 1919 by the French company Lignes Aerienne Latécoère and has continued to operate continuously since then.
Today is it fourth in traffic volume in Spain, third in the Iberian Peninsula and occupies the position 22 in the European Union. In 2007 it obtained the figure of 13,590,537 passengers (10.0001.021 international destinations) with a number of 129,693 operations. These figures place it as an important gateway for tourism for both the Costa del Sol and Andalusia; Malaga airport thus represents about 85% of international traffic in the community of Andalusia.
The airport has three terminals that are connected to each other. As a general rule all commercial passengers must go through Terminal 3 as there is located the security checkpoint; yet there are as well operational the other two terminals where mainly operate low cost companies and No-Schengen flights.
South of Malaga airport is situated a small terminal whose purpose is serving passenger charter flights and general aviation.
The airport is located just outside the city of Malaga and is connected to it along with other locations due to a good communication of buses and trains; furthermore there is also great fleet of private taxis and other services through Malaga Car Hire.
